The Seven Springs and their karst water overflow system
The Seven Springs in the north-east of the village of Engelberg are the largest karst water springs in Obwalden. Over 6000l/s flow from the springs at high water. The inflow of this large karst water outlet is connected to other springs. The Seven Springs are merely the main outlet of a connected overflow system between 1020m and 1095m above sea level along the northern flank of the Horbistal. The highest spring outlets here, the Löcherflue springs, only spring to life during heavy high-altitude snowmelt and heavy precipitation. Then, however, huge masses of water can emerge from the karst aquifer and cause great damage.
First Jochpass walking lift
In the summer of 1944, the Jochpass ski lift was also put into operation. In less than 20 minutes, guests could reach the top of the Joch at 2215 metres. The ski hoops were replaced by "special walker lift hoops" in the summer. This was considered a new sensation throughout Switzerland.
