Mountain of Angels

The name Engelberg as the ‘Mountain of Angels’ cannot be a coincidence. The Swiss freeride Mecca is known worldwide for its great slopes, constant snowfall and legendary mountain sports culture. In a series of five episodes, we tell the stories of ‘our angels’: six freeriders share their lives with us, all with their very own connections to this place, individual experiences and different attitudes.

These five freeriders from Engelberg are part of the ‘Mountain of Angels’ series. They show us the freeride mecca from their point of view and take us along on their passion for freeriding.

Geny. The Pioneer.

Geny, a true freeride icon from Engelberg, was a pioneer in opening up routes that now attract adventurers from all over the world. As a native of Engelberg who has dedicated his life to the mountains and skiing, he has experienced the transformation of the ski area and the sport at first hand. For Geny, it is not success that counts, but experiencing nature and savouring the moment.

Sanne. The Survivor.

Sanne was once a rising star in skiing, known for her elegance and skill. But an avalanche accident changed everything: snow, silence, footsteps above her. Although she was quickly rescued, the experience left her with post-traumatic stress disorder and robbed her of the joy of skiing. In this episode of ‘Mountain of Angels’, you can find out how Sanne found her way back to feeling safe in the mountains again.

Whisky. The Tutor.

Many skiing families dream of sharing their passion for the sport. Whisky and his son do too. Their shared love of skiing deepens the father-son relationship, while Whisky shows his son the snow-covered playground right on their doorstep.

Linda. The Outsider.

Linda doesn't need to travel far - her home offers everything she could wish for. Growing up in a remote hut, with the cable car as her connection to the world, this experience has shaped her view of life. What counts for Linda is the joy of discovery, the tranquillity of solitude and the moments of peace on her tours. She favours unknown paths to escape the crowds and test her limits. Extremes do not appeal to her, even if she could easily keep up. She is driven by the pure experience.

Kye & Jérémie. The Visitors

Jérémie Heitz and Kye Peterson are among the absolute world leaders in freeskiing and impress with their exceptional skills. Despite their extremely high level, they remain true to their playful nature and inspire with their infectious humour. This combination of top performance and ease makes them not only outstanding athletes, but also inspiring personalities in the sport of freeskiing.
