Have you ever wondered how you can experience Engelberg in just one day? In this blog, we'll tell you what the perfect day in Engelberg could look like - at any time of year. We don't just have the well-known highlights, but also some secret places and special tips that will make your visit unforgettable. Because there's always something new to discover in Engelberg - and we'll show you how to get the most out of your day!

Winter

In winter, there is no better way to start the day than with a dose of fun and fresh mountain air.

Our adventure begins with a ride on the Brunni aerial cableway to Ristis, where you can also hire a sledge if required. We then take the chairlift up to the ‘Brunni Hütte’. From there, the pure sledging fun begins! The two toboggan runs ‘Rinderbühl’ and ‘Zigerboden’ promise lots of fun. The ‘Rinderbühl’ toboggan run is 1.8 km long and leads from the Brunni hut to the bottom station of the chairlift. This piste is rather easy to ride and is also suitable for less experienced riders. The ‘Zigerboden’ toboggan run is 1.4 km long and runs from the Brunnihütte to the bottom station of the chairlift. This piste has some fairly steep sections, making it rather challenging to ride. The rapid descents let the cold air float by while the snow glistens under the first rays of sunshine. After a few laps full of laughter and speed, it's time for a well-earned break. At the ‘Älplerbeizli Rigidal’, not only a hot chocolate awaits us, but also the warming sun, which warms the face and recharges the body from the inside. With a bit of luck, you might even bump into the much-loved Globi on the way back.

But the day has much more to offer! The afternoon belongs to cross-country skiing enthusiasts. The trails in the valley offer the right challenge for all levels - from leisurely laps to sporty routes. Most of the cross-country trails are within easy reach in the centre of the village. The Nordic Centre in the Sportingpark is the starting and finishing point for cross-country skiers and provides changing rooms and showers. Today's highlight is not in the village, but a little further up: the cross-country trail on the Gerschnialp. The nostalgic funicular railway takes you easily from the Titlis valley station up to Gerschnialp. With a length of 8.4 kilometres, it leads through idyllic snow-covered forests. Less frequented and picturesquely beautiful, it is the perfect place to enjoy nature in its purest form. If you don't have your own equipment, you can hire it from Intersport Titlis.

For a well-earned lunch break, we recommend the Gasthaus Gerschnialp-Café Ritz, located directly on the cross-country ski trail. Here you will not only find delicious regional specialities, but also a warm atmosphere that invites you to linger. After a relaxing break and a few laps on the cross-country ski trail, take the funicular railway back to the village.

But the day doesn't end easily - the après-ski chalet is the perfect place to end the evening with dancing and a lively atmosphere. With a good drink and the best beats of the winter, the day becomes an unforgettable experience.

Insider tip for families: The Brunni is Globi's home and with a bit of luck you'll meet him on the way! The blue bird can be seen around Ristis on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1.30 pm to around 3.00 pm.

Insider tip for connoisseurs: round off your winter experience with a hearty Engelberg fondue and a good glass of wine. The Chalet Ruinart is set up in the Kurpark during the winter months and invites you to enjoy its cosy, rustic ambience.

Insider tip for adventurers: If you like your sledge a little faster and motorised, you can let off steam in the SnowXpark on the racing slope on Trübsee with e-snowmobiles, moonbikes or bobsleds.

Spring

Engelberg is slowly awakening from its winter slumber. Nature is beginning to blossom in the valley and temperatures are rising. But the climate in Engelberg is not the same everywhere - here you can experience spring twice. Once in the valley, where the first warm rays of sunshine herald the arrival of spring, and once at higher altitudes, where spring doesn't really arrive until May or even June. This long spring allows you to experience Engelberg in all its diversity.

You can still start the day on the slopes until the beginning of May. The spring-like temperatures ensure the typical ‘sulz snow’ and the crowds on the piste also decrease, so you can enjoy the slopes almost all to yourself. The sun terraces of the restaurants directly on the slopes invite you to enjoy a delicious, spring-like lunch, where you can savour the fresh mountain air and the warming rays of sunshine to the full.

After changing from ski gear to a T-shirt, there is plenty to discover in the valley. A relaxed walk along the mountain meadows to the 'Lourdesgrotte' is a highlight. On this path, you can discover a wide variety of mountain flowers and grasses, which are in full bloom at this time of year. If you have a little more time and energy, you should definitely treat yourself to a longer walk to the 'Goldboden' - a real insider tip! The Goldboden, located behind the Fürenbahn cable car, is known for its beautiful blooms of crocuses in all colours. And if you prefer cycling, the Goldboden is also a great option for a mountain bike tour when the path is clear of snow.

Insider tip for families: The Robinson playground offers a perfect mix of fun and adventure for young and old. The raft and the island awaken the imagination and whisk children away to a world of pirate adventures.

Insider tip for connoisseurs: The hooves of the two horses patter in front of you and their harnesses jingle softly: take a carriage ride through the valley and discover Engelberg in peace and comfort.

Insider tip for adventurers: discover Engelberg and the surrounding mountain panorama from a bird's eye view with a tandem paragliding flight. Adventure, adrenalin and absolute freedom above the clouds!

Summer

In summer, Engelberg is at its best - the mountains are a lush green, the air is clear and the days are long and full of possibilities. The variety of activities is huge and there is an adventure to suit every taste.

The numerous themed hiking trails in Engelberg - such as the Walenpfad, the Alpkäsetrail, the Little Patagonia Trail or the Buiräbähnlisafari - offer a whole day full of varied experiences. These trails take you through the entire Engelberg valley and allow you to discover the region in a very special way. But if that's not enough variety for you, I recommend a shorter hike off the beaten track.

One of my personal favourite routes leads from Horbis up to Ried, where there is a beautiful little alpine hut. The trail is called ‘Schletteren’ and is one of the lesser-known hiking trails and is therefore particularly popular with locals. The hike takes you through peaceful, unspoilt nature and covers an altitude difference of around 400 metres on a picturesque forest path. There are several viewpoints and picnic areas along the way, from which you can enjoy wonderful views of the Titlis and the surrounding mountains. Once you reach the top, you can continue along the trail to the Flühmatt restaurant. A reward awaits you there: the famous ‘Ängelbärger Älplermagronen’, which are cooked according to a local recipe.

In the afternoon, there are many relaxing ways to continue enjoying the day in Engelberg. One highlight is definitely the Fürenalp, which is also known as Engelberg's place of power. Here you can soak up the peaceful atmosphere and recharge your batteries. For the little adventurers, the rope park, which is just a 5-minute walk from the Fürenbahn cable car, offers plenty of fun and action. Kids can swing through the trees at dizzying heights and master exciting challenges.

Finally, the evening can be rounded off in one of the many cafés or on the cosy terraces of the local restaurants. Our tip: enjoy a delicious drink in the Yucatan restaurant, reflect on your active day and relax in the tranquillity of the mountains.

Insider tip for families: the wooden ball trail from Ristis to Brunni provides plenty of fun and action. The various stations invite you to discover and play as you move through the beautiful natural surroundings.

Insider tip for connoisseurs: A whey bath on the Gerschni, with a view of the breathtaking mountain panorama, is a real insider tip that should not be missed.

Insider tip for adventurers: Five varied via ferrata routes offer you an exciting adventure with different challenges. The Fürenwand is an impressive challenge for experienced via ferrata climbers, while the Brunnistöckli offers a more leisurely approach to the adventure.

Autumn

As colourful as autumn is, the activities and offers in Engelberg are just as varied. This time of year invites you to enjoy nature to the full and at the same time take advantage of the numerous opportunities the region has to offer.

A bike tour is definitely one of the highlights. In the morning, when the temperatures are still cool but pleasant, you can ride your mountain bike along the bobsleigh track up to Gerschnialp. Less experienced cyclists have the option of taking the funicular railway.

A short detour to Alp Arni, which lies behind the Untertrübsee restaurant, is particularly worthwhile. From there you have one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Engelberg - the so-called ‘Stöck’. The view from up here of the entire village and the surrounding mountains is simply breathtaking and lets you experience the autumnal blaze of colour to the full. After this unforgettable view, you return to the Gerschnialp. The trail arena in the Gerschniwald then offers you the perfect descent back to the village, where you can enjoy the ride with an adrenalin kick.

In the afternoon, it's time to relax and wind down at the end of the day. A visit to the sauna area at the Alpenresort Eienwäldli or the spa at the Kempinski Hotel is the ideal place to do something good for body and soul. The soothing warmth and the view of the autumnal nature let you forget the stress of everyday life and offer you perfect relaxation.

And as autumn in Engelberg also means game season, a culinary highlight is a must. A visit to the ‘Ende der Welt restaurant' in Horbis is an absolute must for anyone who not only wants to experience autumn, but also taste it. Between September and October, there is a special game menu that offers the best regional specialities with fresh game - a feast for the senses and a real highlight of the autumnal culinary culture.

Insider tip for families: challenge and pure nature are rarely so close together. Adventure is the name of the game at the Engelberg rope park. A place where fun and thrills meet.

Insider tip for connoisseurs: autumn is also game season! Between September and October, the famous ‘game menu’ awaits you in the ‘End of the World’ restaurant. The matching game viewing rounds off the experience so that you can experience the local wildlife in its natural environment.

Insider tip for adventurers: the 500 metre zipline not only guarantees breathtaking panoramic views, but also adrenaline. The thrill increases with every metre you hurtle down.
