The cable car runs on demand: You sit down in it and announce yourself by phone, whereupon a member of the Töngi family sets the gondola in motion. Unlike most cable cars, the gondolas are not suspended in an oscillating fashion from a central running gear, but are suspended at the front and back. Thus, they tilt according to the gradient of the track rope and tilt forwards or backwards when this changes. This effect is particularly impressive during the descent in this lower section, when the gondola passes the mast on the cliff edge and the track rope tilts abruptly towards the bottom of the valley.
The pleasure of two Buiräbähnli with the Töngi family
If you are looking for the most spectacular small cable car of the Buiräbähnli Safari, you will find it in Grafenort. The Rugisbalmbahn, which leads up to the farm of the same name, situated about 870 m above sea level, is not for the faint-hearted. A second cable car leads from the farm further up to Lutersee in the same adventurous and spectacular way - starting point for many hikes and ski tours. The two cable car stations are right next to the farm, which is managed by Toni Töngi. His mother usually takes care of the two Bähnli. Toni grew up on Rugisbalm and spent almost his entire life so far in this beautiful mountain idyll. As a child, he always went to school by cable car, because the access road to the farm was not built until 1993.

From Lutersee you will find the following hikes:
Lutersee - Salistock
The Rugisbalm Lutersee cable car takes you to a beautiful vantage point. From the mountain station Lutersee lower part along the gravel road to Eggen and further to Lutersee upper part 1740 m.a.s.l. The idyllic mountain lake reflects in good weather the famous Titlis on its water surface.
From the Hüethütte along the right bank of the Lutersee to the Bocki. After the steep ascent enjoy the peace and nature of the Bocki. The border crossing between Nidwalden/Obwalden Bocki-Rotsand-Sattel is already visible. From the border ridge the last meters along the green grassy ridge of the Widderfeld to the summit cross, with a view over the whole Engelberg valley.
Salistock Saage
The not so well known Salistock is a mountain shrouded in legend: men from Switzerland and abroad were convinced that they would find silver, gold or precious stones above the small Lutersee. Today, the name of the "Goldbächlein", which flows from the alp Bocki to the lake, still bears witness to this time. The alpine dairymen from the nearby alps are said to have made their way to the rock face night after night. They cut deep holes in the rock and hoped to make the glittering find of their lives one day. The mountain men, however, did not like this at all and mysteriously saved their precious treasures.
