Impressions from the tightrope walk

Alp Laucheren

Your mountain hut at 1,900 meters above sea level
High above the Engelberg Valley, the Laucheren Alp lies well sheltered in a gentle hollow. From June through the end of September, the herdsman Melk tends his flock here: 120 sheep, 2 llamas, about 50 mother cows with their calves, a bull, 8 hens, 1 rooster, and a herding dog.

Your Bivouac at 1,900 m above sea level

Nestled in a sheltered, gentle hollow, the Laucheren Alp lies at about 1,900 m above sea level. This is where alpine farmers Melk and Agnes spend the alpine summer with their animals. Sheep and mother cows graze around the alp, and llamas and chickens are part of the herd as well.

For one night, you, too, will become part of this alpine life with your tent right in the middle of it all and the mountains right at your doorstep.

Accommodations & Equipment

Tents and sleeping pads are provided at the alp for your overnight stay. Please bring your own sleeping bag. If you’d like, you can also bring your own tent.

Remember: You’ll be spending the night in the mountains at an elevation of about 1,900 meters above sea level. Be sure to pack warm clothing and a headlamp as well.

Dinner & Alpine Breakfast

After a day of hiking, a simple dinner awaits you at the alp. The next morning, you’ll fuel up with an alpine breakfast before tackling the second leg of the ridge hike toward Engelberg.
